Where to find : North east of Burgos. Surface:49.217 Ha. Relief: it is situated on the southern border of the Cordillera Cantabrica , the “Obarenses” form a compact set of narrow and broken anticlines and synclines. The river Ebro, Oca ,Purón and Molinar have created spectacular canyons and gorges.
Vegetation: Large woods of evergreen oaks, Portuguese oaks, pine trees and wild pine trees. There are isolated spots of beech trees on the mountain crests. Abundant bushes of juniperus phoenicea and box. Endemic botanical species.
Fauna: Griffon vulture, Egyptian vulture, royal eagle, goshawk, sparrow-hawk, peregrine, honey buzzard, royal owl and chough, wolf, wild boar, roe-deer, fox and otter.
Protection code: the legal framework needed for the protection and regulation of these spaces was set up by the Junta.
